Local Eating for Halloween: Apple Monsters

Apple Slice ‘Monsters’ Recipe

Chocolate-coated apple slices with sprinkles and candy eyes make Halloween-themed 'monsters' in this recipe
,
  • 1 – 2 apples
  • 1 bag of white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of dark or milk chocolate chips
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, divided
  • Candy eyes
  • (Optional) Halloween-themed sprinkles

Wash apples and cut them in half and then into quarters. Then lay them flat, slice off the core on the piece and slice them into smaller slices.

Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

In a double boiler or a small saucepan add the white chocolate and half of the coconut oil, whisking to break down the chocolate and help with the melting process.

Once the chocolate has melted remove from heat and dip one slice of apple in at a time placing it on the prepared baking tray. Once you’ve covered each slice, place the tray in the freezer to let the chocolate harden up.

Remove from the freezer and if needed, coat the slices in another round of white chocolate.

If not, add the dark chocolate chips to a double boiler or a small saucepan add the dark chocolate and the remaining coconut oil. Whisking to break down the chocolate and help with the melting process.

Drizzle each slice of apple with dark chocolate, then add sprinkles and candy eyes. Serve and enjoy!
