Get Outside this Winter with our Northern Michigan Staff Recommendations

Northern Michigan is all about treasuring each season, including the cold and snowy ones! Take our team’s recommendations for getting outside this winter, and what they recommend for bringing along a local treat.

Winter Stillness at Brown Bridge Quiet Area

My parents have a small rustic cabin near the Brown Bridge Quiet Area, and winter is such a great time to enjoy the stillness of nature. An aspen forest near the cabin reflects the white snow, and it feels like being surrounded by calm. I recommend bringing a Higher Grounds coffee (possibly brewed over a campfire or woodstove), enhanced with Triple M Farm maple syrup to stay cozy while taking in the quiet. Claire, Content Strategy Specialist (Elk Rapids)

A Trek to Farm Club

We love to get up early on a snowy day and head out to the TART trail for a cross-country ski to Farm Club for brunch. It’s always a great reward to warm up next to a fire pit or cozy up inside next to the wood-burning fireplace. Everything is delicious! Haley, Director of Community Partners (Traverse City)

Packed Local Goods at the Wildwood Hills Pathway

I grew up in Petoskey and winter is really stunning in that area. My favorite winter destination is Wildwood Hills Pathway for the most beautiful cross-country skiing. Make it extra cozy by bringing along a thermos filled with Light of Day tea to sip after your ski. Headed out for a long trip? Treats like the Pepper Parmesan roll and any of the cookies made at Crooked Tree Breadworks can easily be tucked into your pack. Christina, Marketing Director (Leelanau County)

Grayling Eats for Cross-Country Skiing

We can hardly wait until the snow flies and the adventures in the snow can begin. A great day starts with a hot coffee, chocolates, and tasty snacks from Tip’n the Mitten. We like to hit the cross-country ski trails at Hanson Hills Recreation Area or Hartwick Pines State Park. To enjoy a back-country excursion allowing us to include our doggo Leo, we head out east of town to the Mason Tract, on the high banks of the AuSable River south branch. But, let’s keep that our little secret! Jackie, Marketing & Media Sales Manager (Grayling)
