Meet the Farmers’ Truck: A Mobile Market

The Farmers’ Truck began with a connection between small farmers in greater Moncton in Eastern Canada and a community experiencing food insecurity. Inspired by his family’s experience as lessors of a housing unit in which most tenants lacked access to consistent fresh produce, CEO and Co-Founder Frederic Laforge focused on infrastructure that offered more opportunities for food availability, despite circumstance. In 2015, he founded the Farmers’ Truck.

What is the Farmers’ Truck?

“The Farmers’ Truck is a social enterprise with a mission to increase fresh, healthy food access to all communities across North America,” explains James Mallory, Sales and Marketing Manager. “We achieve this goal by designing, manufacturing, and selling a one-of-a-kind mobile produce market truck.”

These “markets on wheels” are agile ways to distribute fresh foods for a multitude of organizations, from farms to government agencies. Beyond offering the infrastructure of the vehicle itself, the Farmers’ Truck offers guidance on how to operate a mobile market program, tailored to the client, and based on years of experience operating their own Farmers’ Truck.

Farmers’ Truck = Food Access

The major benefit of investing in a Farmers’ Truck is its ability to change food access in communities where fresh produce is less available. The convenient nature of the ‘mobile market’ design allows trucks to set up in multiple locations per day, creating opportunities for organizations like food hubs, urban farms, pantries, and community service organizations to increase their footprint in food deserts and swamps. Beyond that, many customers of the Farmers’ Truck live in the communities they serve, allowing for culturally relevant produce selection and opportunities to connect with neighbors where they live, work, and play.

Try the New C-Model for Your Organization

Does a Farmers’ Truck sound like a good fit for your community, business, or organization? The newest C-Model Truck offers battery-powered cooling & freezing options, as well as a fully insulated box. Beyond that, the box opens on the side and the food display is low to the ground, creating an ideal shopping experience for customers. Not only are customers offered a great shopping experience, but the convenient, ergonomic countertop and aisle space inside the truck create ease for anyone operating the market. This newest model builds from the success of the passive cooling of the B-Model Truck.
