Leeks should be stored unwashed and untrimmed in the refrigerator. Place them in a sealable bag or wrap them in a damp paper towel to maintain moisture.

Prep Tip

Be sure to rinse the layers of the leek well after cutting, as they often hide sand and grit.

Seasonality

Leeks are generally harvested in Michigan in the late Summer through the Fall, with wild leeks, also called ramps, available in April or May.
