What It’s Like to Be a Local Food Club Member

Food, and local food especially, is all about the spirit of togetherness. Here at Taste the Local Difference, we’ve got a community built around local food — whether that is with farmers, market managers, chefs or store owners — and now there is one for you, the local food lover! Our Local Food Club allows you to get involved with TLD’s mission and connect with local food in Michigan.

Signing up is super easy! Just head to localfoodclub.org and hit the ‘Join the Club’ button.

When you sign up to be a Local Food Club member, you get welcome gifts! A favorite of mine is the large, sturdy tote bag, that’s perfect for farmers market trips. You also get a seasonality poster, which looks great on any fridge. Plus, local food club members get access to a digital cookbook with seasonal recipes from Michigan chefs. On top of those, members also receive a Taste the Local Difference sticker and the most fun temporary vegetable tattoos made in West Michigan

Another benefit of being part of the club is the membership card which offers discounts to a variety of businesses across Michigan. I used my discount at one of the farm stands near me, Danu Hof. With my card, I could get my favorite cottage bacon at a discounted price! With all of the benefits listed online, I can easily see where to use my membership card next.

Not only does my membership include all this, but I also get invites to local food events! Our first Local Food Club event will be a virtual sit down with Chef Abra Berens to talk about her great cookbook, Ruffage. Local Food Club members can bring a dish to show what they’ve made (I’m thinking beet pasta!) and ask questions over Zoom. This event is happening May 7, at 6:30pm, and there’s still time to join as a member for the Zoom link to join!

I’m so excited to be a Local Food Club member! Interested in the same experience? You can sign up online and become a member today.
