Blue Mitten Farms

Blue Mitten Farms is a 6 year old hydroponic lettuce and microgreen farm located in Okemos Michigan. We started as a group of 4 Michigan born, raised and college educated friends looking to combine our skill sets to do something challenging and inspiring in our great state. Coming from a mix of past professions, property investment/management, agricultural sales and consulting and food service management, we saw a need in our area of Michigan for year-round, locally and sustainably grown lettuce. Given the layout of the already established greenhouses at the farm property we settled on and our combined knowledge of gardening, hydroponics, food service and a strong industry network, we went for it. After six months rehabilitating, updating and converting the greenhouses to nft hydroponic systems, we have been growing the highest quality lettuce and microgeens year round in mid-Michigan. Initially delivering every order ourselves to restaurants here in Lansing to Detroit and Grand Rapids, we transitioned to the use of distributors to help broaden our reach and efficiency. We have also partnered with Market Wagon online farmers market and many area schools via the 10 Cents a Meal state program. Covid has certainly presented some bumps and setbacks along the road but we continue to persevere and expand. We also have outdoor plots where we grow seasonal offerings like squash, zucchini, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, standard and specialty peppers
