Starting May 3rd, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the heart of downtown Ypsilanti will come alive with vibrant produce, handmade goods, and an abundance of community spirit. The market has a new home at the Ypsilanti Farmers MarketPlace, and with that move comes more space, more vendors, and a great lineup of events.
So, What’s New at the Ypsilanti Farmers Market This Year?
In short, more of everything you love, and an even bigger focus on gathering. “We’re shifting from solely creating programming ourselves to inviting the community to use our space and lead the way,” explains Claire Austin, Farmers Market Manager. “We’re here to support and uplift what already thrives in our neighborhoods.”
Austin and the team at Growing Hope, the market’s steward organization, have cooked up a schedule full of celebrations and ways to connect with your neighbors. Here’s a taste of what’s coming:
- Opening Day (May 3): Kick off the season with your favorite local farmers, fresh food, and the joyful buzz of market life.
- Children’s Market (May 17): Budding business owners will take center stage thanks to a partnership with the Children’s Entrepreneur Market.
- Juneteenth Celebration (June 15): A flavorful extension of the city’s annual Juneteenth festivities, celebrating Black culture, food, and entrepreneurship.
- Flavor Fest Summer Bash (August 9): Expect giveaways, prizes, and food safety tips—plus plenty of ways to treat your tastebuds.
