Early on Saturday and Wednesday mornings in downtown Traverse City, you’ll notice tents going up, and delicious things emerging from farm and bakery trucks. This season, the Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market will feature cooking demonstrations on select Saturdays from Traverse City area chefs to inspire visitor’s market day shopping. Plus, visitors will get a taste of the recipe!

Taste the Local Difference is proud to partner with Downtown TC to bring eaters more ideas for using their local food in collaboration with Traverse City area chefs.
“We love finding ways to engage people with the farmers market, and these cooking demonstrations are another excellent way to do so,” says Art Bukowski, Communications and Outreach Director for Downtown TC. “By showing people fresh new ways to use their favorite ingredients, we can help them get more out of their experience at the market.”
Head to the Taste the Local Difference tent to pick up a Local Food Guide and a sample of a new recipe on demonstration days through September. Eaters who miss the market, or order from the online Wednesday market, are still invited to participate with each recipe being posted on our blog.

The Traverse City chefs demonstrating recipes come from a variety of culinary backgrounds and experiences, and each bring unique takes on using what’s in season. Past recipes featured in June were a Spicy Strawberry-Rhubarb Chutney with Grand Traverse Hot Sauce Co. (pictured) and Tomato Chaat with Chateau Chantal. On July 23rd and 30th, scheduled chefs will be at the market from Boathouse Restaurant and the Artisan at Delamar.
