The expanding collaboration and partnership among growers and producers in southeast Michigan forges a robust and resilient food system. Bløm Meadworks and Fresh Forage intentionally cultivate these connections to grow their local food community. Both businesses place a high priority on sourcing ingredients from Michigan producers while also committing support to their surrounding communities.
Using Michigan honey and fruit, Bløm produces session meads and ciders. These light, dry, carbonated beverages are a refreshing far cry from traditional syrupy meads. Bløm focuses on building robust relationships with their suppliers, sourcing Slow Food Ark of Taste varieties of fruit, and providing farmers with an outlet for ugly fruit “seconds”. Similarly, Fresh Forage builds healthy meals based on strong local partnerships. Their entire menu is comprised of ingredients from family farms, local value added producers, and what they’ve foraged in local woods and fields.
In recognition of their similar missions and perspectives on food, Bløm and Fresh Forage decided to join forces to celebrate spring and Michigan’s local food system. On June 15th, both businesses are hosting a four course dinner at Bløm’s downtown Ann Arbor tap room. The evening’s menu will showcase the best of spring’s cultivated and foraged delights. Each course will be paired with a seasonally inspired mead or cider and dessert will feature Mindo Chocolate truffles and Milan Coffee Works coffee. Tables with be dressed by Bhakti Flowers . Guests will meet new friends and learn from the producers as they explain their craft.
