Here in Michigan, we grow over a billion pounds of apples every year. This delicious fruit is the easiest way to bite into local flavor – so let’s get started!

Is the Apple Blossom the State Flower of Michigan?
Yes! The apple blossom is the state flower of the Pleasant Peninsula! Specifically, it’s the Sweet Crabapple, one of only four native apples to North America. This apple variety has a fragrant bloom and is currently being preserved for its genetic adaptation to bloom later than most commercial varieties, a safeguard against climate change.
When are Apples in Season in Michigan?
Fresh apples can start to make an appearance in August, and fresh eating extends as late as November. Many apple varieties are great in storage, with some improving in taste with cold, so local apples can be eaten throughout the winter and early spring.
