Royal Oak Farmers Market Continues through Construction

The Royal Oak Farmers Market began in 1925! It is a wonderful, exuberant, and beautiful market filled with local farmer’s and their vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, organic produce, naturally raised meat, bakers of all kinds including vegan, paleo, grain free, and dairy free. There are also artisans with handmade cutting boards, garden art and even a knife sharpener.

It’s the oldest market in Oakland County, but what really sets the Royal Oak Farmers Market above other markets is their high standards and strict guidelines. For example, all vendors in the market must grow or produce what they bring to sell. Only certified organic farmers that provide their documentation can promote that the products are organic.

In addition, in the off season (December-May) farmers can bring in additional produce that they purchase to supplement the root vegetables (winter vegetables) they grow. However, unlike other markets that are open year-round it must be from the 48-continuous continental US states. What this means for you, is that at the Royal Oak Farmers Market you will never purchase fruits and vegetables from other countries that do not follow the high standards that the US department of agriculture holds our farmers accountable.

Farmers at the Royal Oak Farmers Market have been here for generations. Some of the farms are run by the great-grand-children of the farmers that first came to the Royal Oak Farmers Market when it was just a field.

Big changes are about to happen in Royal Oak, a new police station, new city hall, new parking structures and a beautiful new city park all right in the backyard of the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Like any construction, there will be things harder to navigate during the process. And we are currently looking into shuttles, possible valet service and a staging/pick up zone that will make it easier to shop at the Royal Oak Farmers Market during the construction. Plus, when it is complete in January of 2020 it will be a fantastic area for all to enjoy with even more opportunities for the Royal Oak Farmers Market.

During the construction we will be open, and our hours of operation will not change. (Fridays 7a-1p May-Thanksgiving and Saturdays 7a-1p All Year Round). We hope that you will support our farmers and continue to shop at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.
